Scientific progress - a gift from God : Nobel Laureate
 
California: It is God who has regulated the world in such a way as to enable man to conduct research and to make giant leaps in progress". Said Dr William Philips who shared the 1997 Nobel prize for Physics with his two colleagues. "I see the hand of God every where in this universe . Those who seek evidence for the same will not see it...still, my hope is that people will understand the fact that there are several scientists who take the word of God and their faith seriously," said Dr Philips, revealing the new face of science that holds perfection can be achieved only when material progress is aligned with God.
 
 
Dr P P Job is ICA chief
 
New Delhi:The General Assembly of the International Christian Association(ICA) held at Scholoss Catholic Monastery, Bordensea Lake, Germany from 13, October '97 has unanimously elected Dr P P Job from India as the President of ICA. He will hold office for a period of three years. He is the first Indian to hold the post.
 
 
Dichotomy between faith and life
 
New Orleans: The great problem of today is the dichotomy between belief and daily life, said Archbishop Francis Shurt. We should try to regulate the socio- economic and political environment in which we live according to our faith. The lack of correspondence between what is learnt in the Catechism class and the matters of daily life, causes youth to go astray, sad the Archbishop.
 
 
Vatican-Israel treaty
 
The Vatican city: The Vatican and Israel have signed the significant treaty that provides legal status for Christian individuality in the constitutions of the Jewish nation of Israel. This treaty, deals with matters like stability of Catholic institutions, the customs of the Holy Land, and Catholic traditions. It is known as "The Individuality of Catholic Institutions". It distinguishes between the titles of the Bishops on the basis of Canon law.
 
 
Bishop against blockade
 
Detroit: The seven-member council under the leadership of Bishop Thomas Gumbilton, threw to the winds the blockade imposed by UNO against Iraq. They distributed medicine worth 1500 dollars in Iraq. The Bishop who witnessed the death of a large number of sick people including children for lack of medicine, declared the blockade as being immoral. He also accused the US of being the chief culprit in this inhuman act.
 
 
Unanimity in Bible reading
 
Tokyo: The well-known Anglican pastor Donald Gray has suggested that there should be unanimity atleast in the Sunday Bible readings of all Christian churches. "It is a regrettable fact that we who are Christians by baptism, stand disunited before the altar. Can we not become one atleast in the matter of the gospel?" asked Pastor Gray to all the Christian denominations.
 
 
Prayer acceptable to all
 
Japan: Seventeen bishops of Japan including Anglicans, met together to discuss the feasibility of a prayer that is acceptable to all: "Our Father in heaven". Discussions on the liturgy need be considered only after that, they decided.
