The Word of God
Transforms Us
Fr Mathew Naickomparambil

" Do not let your
hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives" (Jn 14:1,27).
The life of Jesus testifies
to the truth embodied in the title. He was born in a stable; died on a
cross; was buried in another's tomb. When the disciples returned to their
homes at night, Jesus retired to solitary spots to pray alone. We can see
in Jesus a simple lifestyle devoid of sophistication. The comforts that
man, a slave to sin, gets in this world are momentary and easily lost.
While we listen to the word of God, the Holy Spirit transforms us. We are
liberated from evil attachments, bodily lusts, and sinful inclinations.
The prayers of saintly people who have had the experience of inner healing
and of deep encounters with God, are more efficacious than those of several
others.
