Richer than Wisdom

"If riches are a desirable possession in life, what is richer than wisdom, the active cause of all things ?" (Wis 8:5)

"Happy are those who find wisdom, and those who get understanding, for her income is better than silver, and her revenue better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honour"(Prov 3:13-16).

The above mentioned verses stress the importance of gaining wisdom. Where is the man who does not relish wealth or honour? Let those who desire to acquire them search for wisdom. "Seek first the kingdom of God and all other things shall be added unto you"( Mt 6:33). The race to possess material goods, keeping God away from the heart, is a journey to fall into the snares of Satan. Since God does not want any of his children to be lost, he shows him the right path through small disciplinary measures. "Those who despise wisdom and instruction are miserable.Their hope is vain, their labours are unprofitable, and their works are useless" (Wis 3:11).

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight"(Prov 9:10), says the Lord. "Therefore set your desire on my words; long for them, and you will be instructed" (Wis 6 : 11). "One who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty, for she will be found sitting at the gate" (Wis 6:14). In the midst of the struggle to attain material pleasures, man has no time to know or love God. The birds of the air praise God in the early morn. Trees and flowers wave in the gentle breeze and give glory to God. Only man, the crown of creation, has no time to honour God. On week days he is caught in the hustle and bustle of hurrying for work and sending the children to school; in the evenings the interest is to send them for tution to secure ranks. To avoid the monotony of daily living, the many T.V. programmes are avialable. Can those who go to bed after viewing Asianet and Zee T V programmes, afford to wake up early to praise God? How many houses are there where the parents and children together praise and thank God? Let us help our children to gain knowledge in the word of the Lord and to grow up in wisdom.
