After the example of a servant in the third millennium - Asian Synod
 
Rome: The Asian Church, entering the third millennium, will emulate Jesus, and like him be a servant to the people, declared the Asian synod. The synod inaugurated by Pope John Paul II on April 19 th in Rome was concluded on May 14th 1998.
 
 
Inter-culturation: delay is dangerous
 
Fr Robert Taft has stated that living the religious life ignoring the culture of the place and the people, will lead to stagnation. Fr Taft, who is the director of the Pontifical Oriental Institute, is of the opinion that the reluctance and opposition of the Church towards inter-culturation will be suicidal. He said so while delivering a speech at a meeting of the representatives of the Oriental Churches in connection with the Asian Synod.
 
 
Reception of the Holy Eucharist: Prohibition must be cancelled

London: The Anglican Church has requested that the Catholic Church repeal the law prohibiting non-Catholics attending Mass from receiving Holy communion. Archbishop Cary, the head of the Anglican Church, has said that it is a painful thing to prevent full participation at the Lord's Supper.
 
 
Dictionary of Theology
 
With the collaboration of 250 theologians, a huge dictionary of theology has been published in Paris. It has 1336 pages. Chief editor, Fr Lakhost says its purpose is to understand better the God revealed in the Bible and to enable people to think of every reality as related to God.
 
 
Arrest for refusal to join the National Catholic Church in China
 
Beijing: The Chinese government has arrested Frs Lujanuyi and Shivende for refusing to join the National Catholic Church, which is under the domination of the Chinese government. They were arrested as they were preparing to say Mass.
 
 
In Health Care uphold Christian morality
 
Toronto: Within the first twenty five years of the third millennium the matter of old-age care will have become a critical problem in the U.S. Sr Nuala Kenny, a Sister of Charity working in this field, says that the remedy is to give health care with emphasis on Christian morality. If the tradition of giving value to life is sacrificed, old people will be rejected- so said Sr Kenny addressing the annual assembly of the Catholic Health Association of Toronto.
