In 1995 I took my students
on a tour. I was seated in the front seat, with the teachers and students
behind me. On the way from Madurai to Trichy somewhere near Dindigal, our
bus collided with a van coming in the opposite direction. I alone was the
victim of this disaster. My right arm and left leg were broken while, those
at my back, suffered not even a scratch. At 5 a m in that deserted area,
we were wondering what to do when a God-sent ambulance came that way. They
took me to the CSI hospital and then after 4 days’ treatment, to our own
St Thomas Hospital at Madras. The arm was operated on . The leg was in
too bad a state for surgery and so for three and a half months I was totally
bed-ridden. Later I could walk but not kneel or travel alone. After a year's
rest I went with four other sisters to Divine for a retreat. By the third
day I was fully acclimatized to the conditions there and began to pray
intensely. All those days I prayed for others, never for myself or for
any healing of my injured leg. On the third day, while at prayer, Fr George
Panackal announced, "Jesus is healing Sr Beatrice's broken leg." Praise
and thank you Jesus! I could not at once believe it. But knowing that nothing
was impossible to God, I tried to kneel down and pray. I did so easily.
The same day I climbed up three flights of stairs to Gethsemane, the Prayer
Tower at Divine to pray in the chapel there. Thanks and praise to you Jesus
forever!
