To make salvation our own, to attain perfection, we have to walk along the paths indicated by the Almighty. While the blind man wanted to remain in the village and be close to those dear to him, Jesus declared he should not even enter that village any more.
Those who took him to Jesus, certainly desired to see the miraculous cure happen before their very eyes, while the blind man must have wished to recount the great blessing of his healing to his family and countrymen as soon as possible. God works out his plans in our life over- riding the calculations and the dream-castles we construct for ourselves. When God acts in a way beyond the scope of our thinking or our desires, we should not lose hope and grieve that God has abandoned us. "And my God will fully satisfy every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus"(Phil 4:19). So does St Paul assure us in a spirit-filled moment. Do we not weep and lament when things do not go according to our wishes? When the desired life-partner is not to be had; when we are not blessed with children; when even a rudimentary shelter is denied to us; when daughters of marriageable age remain unsettled-do we not cry out, "Why does not God hear me despite my ardent prayer?" Let God's plans be fulfilled in our lives. Let us keep ready to go out of the city, never to return to it as Jesus takes us by the hand and makes known his will to us.
Lord, may your will be done
on earth as it is done in heaven. Only hold my hand and lead me on, from
evil and diabolical bondage, to the freedom of heaven. Do not permit me
to fall back into the evil habits and the wiles of Satan which I have renounced.
Lord Jesus, be with me to steer my life towards the shores of peace and
cast anchor at the harbour of inner joy. Amen.
