Heaven is for all

For a moment heaven and earth became still. Silence reigned supreme. Something wonderful was going to happen. The whole universe pricked up its ears waiting for the supernatural and miraculous phenomenon. The moment of silence passed. Can you not hear? The heavenly choir! Multitudes of angels appearing in chariots of clouds! A revelation in the middle of the night to the shepherds! "... I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah, the Lord"(Lk 2:10-11). A dream, a yearning, a desire is realised in a stable. The Lord Jesus Christ is born!

It is the good news for heaven and earth. Glory to God in the highest! Heaven was lamenting the state of mankind who had committed sin by rebelling against God and fallen into the clutches of Satan. The sighs of lamentation ceased. God is once again glorified in his creation.

Peace comes to the earth. The Saviour of all mankind, is the God of all (cf Jer 32:27). The birth of Jesus !Jesus who assumed the stark realities of human existence (barring sin), passed through the crucible of suffering and satisfied all our needs "according to his riches in glory"(Phil 4:19).

Seeing a vision of the Christ-event before him, the prophet Isaiah said"...a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace"(Isa 9:6).

Jesus is a wonderful counsellor in regard to the problems of life that defy solution. He whispers in our hearts his words of wisdom regarding tribulations that weigh on our minds-the debts we have incurred, the future of our children, victory over temptations. He pours his strength into our weakness. He who does not know defeat, will never let us fail. The Son of the Father who gives us in a moment the love and care that we have forfeited in a life time!

Our memories rob us of our sleep, our appetite. The myriad worries that harass us day after day- to get a daughter married off; construct a house; clear a debt; answer an approaching examination; the mind is in a muddle; all our savings are expended in the hospital-on goes the list. The Prince of peace will steer our life to the shores of endless serenity and tranquillity.

Did not the angel point to the Son of God lying on the lap of Mother Mary and say, "To you is born this day a Saviour"(Lk 2:11)?

Let us make Jesus and the salvation he gives our very own-now, at this moment.

To all the readers of Vachanolsavam
and all the members of the World Evangelisation Project,
our greetings and the blessings of Christmas and a bright New Year!
